LONG VIEW POLICE DEPARTMENT

History

In 1907 when Long View became a recognized town, Mr. W.A. Abee was elected as the very first Town Marshall.  This occurred on March 18, 1907.  He was followed by T. Arthur Wilson, W.W. Flowers, Johnie Fry and many others.

The Town of Long View Police Department has not always been a separate identity from the Fire Department.  In 1994, the two departments merged to become one entity under the name of Public Safety.  This department was lead by David Turner, who served in this position until his retirement.  He was succeeded in 1998 by Cecil Rogers, who held the position until the department was disbanded in 2001 into two separate departments.  Cecil Rogers then became the Police Chief.  He still holds the position today.
