The Training Division of Long View Fire Department operates under the direction of Engineer Pete Weinrich. Engineer Weinrich is responsible for coordinating departmental firefighter education and skill development.

CERTIFICATION INFORMATION FOR FIRE & RESCUE PERSONNEL

Firefighter I - After completion of this level of certification, the firefighter should be able to perform basic job related skills on the fireground under direct supervision. North Carolina Department of Insurance Fire and Rescue Commission certification.

Firefighter II -  Upon attaining this level of certification, the firefighter should be able to perform basic job related skills on the fireground without the need for direct supervision. North Carolina Department of Insurance Fire and Rescue Commission certification.

Driver/Operator: Pumps - This certification indicates that the individual has received basic training in the field of pumping apparatus operations. North Carolina Department of Insurance Fire and Rescue Commission certification.

Driver/Operator: Aerials - This level of training provides the basic knowledge and skills to prepare the fire fighter for operating apparatus equipped with an aerial device. North Carolina Department of Insurance Fire and Rescue Commission certification.

Fire & Life Safety Educator I, II, III - This three level certification is designed to enable the firefighter to prepare and administer fire and life safety education programs for the general public. North Carolina Department of Insurance Fire and Rescue Commission certification.

NIMS (100, 200, 300, 400, etc.) - These courses are designed to prepare the firefighter to function in various positions within the National Incident Management System.

Qualified Firefighter Instructor - Individuals holding this certification have met the minimal requirements to instruct other firefighters in various areas of fire suppression. North Carolina Department of Insurance Fire and Rescue Commission certification.

 

Qualified Driver/Operator Instructor - Individuals holding this certification have met the minimum requirements to instruct other firefighters in various areas pertaining to apparatus operations. North Carolina Department of Insurance Fire and Rescue Commission certification.

Qualified  Rescue Technician – Vehicle & Machinery Rescue Certification - A voluntary minimum professional qualification for all levels of fire and rescue service personnel. The requirements for this program have been established by the Second Edition of the Fire and Rescue Commission's Rescue Technician Certification Standards. This is considered to be a minimum standard and the Commission fully recognizes that due to differing requirements, many fire departments and rescue squads may require standards much higher for their rescue technicians. It is the intent, however, that through a voluntary program, personnel who provide rescue services to the communities of our State will meet or exceed this standard.

Qualified Rescue Technician Instructor - Individuals holding this certification have met the minimum requirements needed to instruct others in various subject areas pertaining to rescue operations. North Carolina Department of Insurance Fire and Rescue Commission certification.

Qualified Fire & Life Safety Educator Instructor - Certifies that the individual has met the minimum criteria needed to instruct other firefighters in areas pertaining to fire and life safety education issues. North Carolina Department of Insurance Fire and Rescue Commission certification.

Emergency Medical Technician - Certifies that the individual has met the minimum requirements established by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Systems in areas of providing emergency medical care at an established level.
